Coming Together
This isn’t the issue we planned to send.
Last week was Bend's hardest week. We lost kids and adults from Silver Rail Elementary. There are no words for what happened.
What we can tell you is what we’ve seen since.
This weekend we walked over to Haven Bagels and every kid’s bagel was free. Then we headed down to Midtown Yacht Club, where families were painting pumpkins together. At the Central Library, letters and drawings were being worked on by hundreds of kids and families all in support.
And these were just a few of the countless businesses across town that made an awful week a little brighter. It felt special. It felt like the whole town had wrapped its arms around Bend’s kids, and after a week that dark, it let a little light back in.
Bend showed up. You all showed up.
As parents of little ones, thank you.
Here are some additional resources that the community has put together.
Sponsored Locally By BUILD Marketing
Almost every one of you got here through an ad.
BLD Marketing runs the ads that grew The Bend Banner to 4,300+ Bend locals, and they still bring in around 100 new readers a week.
They do the same thing for local ecommerce, restaurants, coaching, and service businesses. Real Bend customers, not random clicks from three states away.
If that sounds like something your business needs, say hi to BLD.
Bucks In Town
There’s been a buck hanging around our street all week.
Every fall, mule deer move down out of the Cascades to lower, warmer weather. Most of them take the same route every single year.
On top of that, it’s rut season. From late October through November, the bucks are chasing does and paying a lot less attention to everything else. Cars included.

A few things for the next month:
Slow down at dawn and dusk. If one deer crosses in front of you, there’s usually another right behind it.
Keep dogs leashed. Bucks get cranky this time of year. Had one stare us down just yesterday.
Give them space, and don’t feed them.
