Breakfast, Worth The Drive
If you’re heading north this fall—pumpkin patches, hikes, whatever—make sure you stop at Brand 44 North. If you’ve never been, it’s tucked right off the highway in Terrebonne, about 30 minutes north of Bend.
Breakfast here feels like it still matters. It's the type of place you walk into, and your nose starts flaring because of how special it smells.
I got the Sweet Heat Benedict. Shredded carnitas, a hint of garlic, just the right kick. Every bite had that perfect “don’t talk to me right now” kind of flavor.

The Bloody Mary? A masterpiece. Spicy, smoky, stacked with pickled goodness. The kind of drink that resets your whole morning.
And don’t leave without the cinnamon donut holes. Served hot, dusted with sugar or cinnamon, gone in seconds.
But honestly, the whole table won. Every plate looked (and tasted) like someone in the kitchen still cares deeply about breakfast.
After breakfast, we hit the pumpkin patch with the kids. Sunshine, hayrides, a few baby pigs, the whole deal. There are two main options, DD Ranch and Smith Rock Ranch Pumpkin Patch. Both are great options. We chose DD this time because it opened earlier. The kids loved it.
By the time we packed up to head home, it felt like we’d already had a full, perfect day.
Bend Takes Home 8 Medals
Four months. That’s all it took for UPP Liquids to walk into the Great American Beer Festival and steal the show.
Five medals. Small Brewer of the Year.
Not bad for the new kid in the Box Factory.
UPP, short for Uniting People and Places with Liquid, is a mash-up of four former 10 Barrel brewers and the owners of Immersion Brewing. Basically, a Bend beer supergroup.
They didn’t just medal once. They racked up golds for honey beer and specialty styles, silvers for field and gose, and a bronze for imperial stout. A clean sweep across styles that proves they can brew anything, and do it well.
They weren’t the only locals making noise in Colorado. Deschutes Brewery took home gold for its non-alcoholic Super Stoked, and Monkless grabbed both a bronze and a silver.
In total, Oregon won 30 medals, the third most in the country. Not bad for a state where half the population probably has a homebrew kit in the garage.
Go raise a glass. Bend’s brewery culture continues to earn its stripes.
