Welcome to the 103 new Banner readers, and happy Cinco De Mayo. We’re Paige and Mason. The Bend Banner is our way of keeping tabs on this wild, beautiful place we call home. To the mornings that start with coffee and mountain air, the trails that somehow always lead to a brewery, and the kind of small-town stories that remind you why you chose to live here in the first place.
Sponsored Locally by Active Bodywork
At Active Bodywork, it’s never just about the massage.
It’s about how you feel when you walk in… and even more when you leave.
We don’t rush sessions or treat you like a time slot on a schedule. We take the time to listen, understand your body, and tailor every treatment to what you truly need, whether that’s deep, focused work or simply a moment to breathe and reset.
Because real bodywork isn’t just physical, it’s personal.
If you’re looking for more than a quick fix, if you want care, intention, and results…you’ll feel the difference here.
Active Bodywork
Where your body is treated… and you are genuinely cared for.
The Best Seat at the Bend Airport
Most people drive past the Bend Municipal Airport without thinking twice about it. You're not catching a flight there. You're just passing it on Powell Butte Road on the way to somewhere else.
That was us, too. Until it wasn't.
We headed upstairs to Bend Airport Cafe (you might know it as Dogs and Fries) and grabbed a window table. Huge glass windows, the whole runway laid out in front of us, small planes and helicopters taxiing and taking off every few minutes. My two-year-old pressed his face against the window and did not move for a very long time.
He called them "heliwopters." Every single one.
We kept it simple. A couple of dogs, some fries. Affordable in a way that catches you off guard right now. But here's what I actually want to tell you about: the Persian menu.
Owner Hoss Talebi runs three kitchens out of this one spot. Hot dogs. Mexican. And full Persian cuisine, including monthly pop-up dinners with dishes like saffron rice and halibut, rose cardamom cake, things you are not finding anywhere else in Central Oregon. If it's on the menu the day you go, order it.
You can also step outside onto the patio and hear the planes up close. We stood there way longer than we planned.
Take your kids. They won't want to leave either.
First Farm Box of the Season
Picked up my first farm box of the season this week(Thanks, Fields Farm). Bok choy, green garlic, pickled beets, lettuce, and spinach. The kind of haul that makes your Monday. What a treat to have local farms in our town!
I kept it simple. Bok choy and green garlic in a pan with olive oil and sea salt. That's it. Oh, and the pickled beets…Genuinely one of the best things I've eaten recently.
